I talked to a lot of your fans to get questions
for the interview.
Yolanda
Adams -Oh wow.
Someone said they love seeing you on the Trinity
Broadcasting Network hosting a show. Are there plans
for you to return to the network in the fall?
Yolanda
Adams -Definitely we're going to.
I know we're slated for a Christmas show. They are in
talks to see if we can do an actual show.
They also asked will there ever be a chance that
viewers will see you singing on the show and not just
hosting.
Yolanda
Adams -Yes, definitely. We're going
to give them a lot of variety.
How long have you been a woman of the word?
Yolanda
Adams -Practically all of my life.
Preaching and teaching, this is like my…that's a long
time Yolanda. My 15th anniversary.
Can you tell me about the new album?
Yolanda
Adams -I think it's one of my best
albums to date. People are going to say, "No I like
Mountain High Valley Low," "No I like Believe,"
"No we like Through The Storm," but I think it's
me best because it's where I am today. Just like you
take your questions from the fans who want to know different
things. What we did is we wrote this album specifically
for the fans.
What was the decision behind not appearing on the
Day by Day cover art?
Yolanda
Adams -We thought that it would be
very interesting to get people's opinion. On every album
my face is right there smack in the middle and I said
"Hey let's' do something that kind of coordinates with
the theme Day by Day. Most people start their
days on the couch with a cup of coffee and they end
their day on the couch with maybe a soda or something
like that to go to bed. So let's start it like that.
Pretty clever huh?
Through the Storm was a very jazzy soulful
song. Do you have any plans to ever record a jazzy gospel
CD?
Yolanda
Adams -So many people ask that question
and I really have to start taking this stuff into account.
People want to hear more jazz type of stuff from me
so if they want to hear it I'm going to have to do it
huh?
Can you tell me about your Voice of an Angel foundation?
Yolanda
Adams -Voice of an Angel Foundation
is an organization that is here to serve children in
underserved and underprivileged areas. What we are trying
to do is not just give them money but we are trying
to give them a skill that they can have for a lifetime.
We are trying to get young people interested in the
field of education and give them scholarships to go
to colleges so they won't have to worry about where
their tuition is coming from things like that. We have
fundraisers slated for 2006 that include a event for
that will be happening the weekend of the all star game
since the NBA all star game will be in Houston. All
of my friends will be coming into town. We are going
to have something really special for that week. Also
to give them a sense of pride of who they are because
some teacher somewhere helped them so hopefully they
can take on that same idea, "Wait a minute, maybe I
can help somebody else too."
I know you spent 7 years as a teacher and you have
a very hectic schedule. Do you ever make school visits?
Yolanda
Adams -I try to it's kind of hard
with what you said with the schedule but I try to do
at least 10 schools a year.
Oh yeah that's great. Here's another question. Do
you write your own songs or do you look for certain
writers to work with when you are writing your albums?.
Yolanda
Adams -I try to write my own songs.
As a matter of fact we did five, six of the songs on
this particular album. I use writers who speak my heart,
folks like Kirk Franklin, Greg Curtis. Those guys I
trust them because they've known me for twenty off years
What is the inspiration for a lot of your songs because
it sounds like you sing from the heart, where does the
inspiration for the songs
Yolanda
Adams -Yeah the inspiration comes
from sheer experience in life there are things you have
to deal with and things you have to go through and I
figure with 6 billion people on this each somebody's
going through something I am going through.
My aunt listens to your holiday album all year long
. Will you ever do another holiday album.
Yolanda
Adams -I will do another one. It's
so funny because I have friends who say the same thing.
"You know, I was listening to that Christmas album
the other day," and hey it's May. It's spring time
we're almost at summer please let it go.
What gospels singers do you listen to?
Yolanda
Adams -I listen to everybody, CeCeWinans,
I love Vicki. When I tell you I have heard everything
from Tye Tribett to J Moss to Ramiyah I love gospel
music and I listen to all of it.
What are your feelings about hip-hop gospel and rap?
Yolanda
Adams -I think it's wonderful. I think
it's absolutely wonderful. I think we have to give our
kids who are ages 0-13 a choice between the hip-hop
that has the language in it and the hip-hop that's really
positive and that what hip-hop gospel does.
Would you ever consider doing a duets album?
Yolanda
Adams -You know you're the second
person that asked me that today. I guess I'm going to
have to huh?
