Tango Redd Interview-December 2005

Tango Redd is an Atlanta based rapper. His debut album The Campaign drops in early 2006. His current single is titled "Let's Cheat."

Can you tell me the story behind your name Tango Redd?
Tango Redd-Yeah well I got my name Tango when I was 13. Recently we added the Redd to it because of what I'm trying to bring to the game right now. When you think of red you think of something hot.

How long have you been pursuing a music career?

Tango Redd-I've been rapping since the age of 8. By the age of 10 I knew this career is definitely what I want to do. I'm 19 now.

Speaking of age you seem much older than 19. Do people ever tell you that?

Tango Redd-Oh yeah. Well I mean it all goes back to where I grew up at.

Where did you grow up at?
Tango Redd-Actually, I grew up on the West Side of Atlanta.

What was it like growing up there?
Tango Redd-Oh man. I come from the hood. So you gotta learn things a lot quicker

How long have you been sporting the blond hair?
Tango Redd-Maybe every bit of two years now.

Can you tell me the story behind your song "Let's Cheat?"
Tango Redd-Basically, saying no matter what you are going through no matter if its with your man or with your kids or your home its pretty much just telling the girl to forget all of that and be with me. You can go back to that lifestyle tomorrow.

When does your album come out?
Tango Redd-Actually, the album comes out the first quarter. It's titled The Campaign and it has both singles on it. The first single was "Wobble and Shake It" with Bone Crusher and David Banner. It has both songs.

Can you tell me any more about the album?
Tango Redd-I had a chance to work with a lot of producers in making this album come true. Definitely it's a well rounded album. We got the chance to work with a lot of different producers in a lot of different ways. The album has a lot of different features on it, Jody Breeze, Three Six Mafia, Sleepy Brown, of course David Banner, Bone Crusher, Lloyd, so it's going to be that one.

How did you go about getting your record deal?
Tango Redd-Through my production company Vintage Sound.

What artists influenced you growing up?
Tango Redd-LL Cool J, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, all the people in the game that were making somebody out of themselves at the time when they were growing up

Do you have a MYSPACE profile
Tango Redd- Yeah.

Do you ever get on there?

Tango Redd- I log on a lot. Its just another way that people can get more personal and more deeper. Its all good, I check it.

What are you plans for the holiday?

Tango Redd- To just enjoy it with my family, doing a lot of shows, it will be a blessing for me to enjoy it with my family.

Have you been on the road with any other artists?
Tango Redd- Oh yeah. Definitely. Recently I was on the road with Trillville. I did a couple of shows with David Banner and Bone Crusher. Things have been going good for me.

What has it been like working with Lloyd? I know he has a big fan base too.

Tango Redd- Well its crazy. The chemistry is definitely there. We feed off of each other we basically turn it out, turn the place out.

What are your long term goals as an artist?

Tango Redd- Long term I just plan to brand name the name Tango Redd. Get on anything I can possibly get on I'm there. I tried to stay on the mix tape because mix tapes help an artists to see when his his album ain't out or people are waiting on it to come out. I try to stay focused and on the grind and stay grinding.
