Sharissa Interview

Sharissa arrived on the music scene in 2002 with the release of her album "No Half Steppin." It's been awhile but Sharissa is back with a new hair color (the blonde was only for consistency with publicity photos, but she will change it up), and a hit song--"In Love With A Thug."

I enjoyed my brief chat with Sharissa. Enjoy!

Your blond hair almost seemed like a trademark. What made you change your hair color?
Sharissa-I got caught up in the blond hair because I was one of those women that changed there hair so much and once I did a photoshoot with that hair color I had to keep it for consistency. Yeah, I'm always going to change my hair color I'm always going to change.

Tell me about the song In Love With A thug. How did that song come about?
Sharissa-How did that song come about? Tank and I in the studio writing about where I was at that point in my life. I just brought it to life.

Where are you from?
Sharissa-The Bronx, New York

I don't know why I thought you were from Detroit. I read on a website you recently performed at a prison can you tell me how that was?
Sharissa-That was dope. It was fun. I pray it was fun for them. It was cool, it was an experience.

Being a female singer in this industry that scrutinized people so much do you have to work hard to stay in shape?
Sharissa-Definitly, definitely. My trainer bustes my ass every couple of days

Are you surprised that the song has been so well received?
Sharissa-Wow. Honestly I'm going to say no. I wouldn't have went with it if I didn't think people were going to love it. I think that it's a great record. Even if I didn't write it or sing the record I would think it was a great record.

Was R. Kelly always involved with the song?
Sharissa-Tank and I wrote the record and sent it to Robert.

Who produced the song?

Sharissa-Tank

I like his new song
Sharissa-Yeah, me too.

This is a question that I have. What advice would you give to a young girl who might have a life of crime or is locked up?
Sharissa-Get your lives together. Especially if they are young women. Get your life together first, he trying to get his stuff together trust me. No man is going to choose to live that lifestyle if he has a choice.

When does the new album come out?

Sharissa-October the 25th.

Your first album No Half Steppin came out three years ago. Now that you have had three years to reflect on it what are your feelings about your first album?
Sharissa-It was me but that was me at that time ya know what I mean? When I listen to it now I'm like wow, I don't think that I really dug into myself. I don't think everyone got me who I was.

Does the new album have a title yet?
Sharissa-Every beat of my heart

Can you tell me more about the new album?

Sharissa-The new album production wise and feature wise I have The Game on it , Nelly Jackson, R Kelly of course, Wyclef Jean. And production Tank produced, Mario Winans, Mike City, Eddie S, I may be missing a few people.

What have you been doing since the last album dropped?
Sharissa-A lot of traveling I have been working on this album a lot of this time. I've been doing shows and films and I ve been over in LA and Hollywood doing some with some friends and creating my clothing line.

Oh okay can you tell me more about your clothing line?
Sharissa-Definitly. I started off now I have jeans, stretch jeans for women to accentuate our figures for some of us who are shaped awkwardly that and tees and some little couture tops.

What is the name of the clothing line?

Sharissa-MaDame Blues, you should see some things spring 2006.

Did you have a lot of input with the concept for the video
Sharissa-Most definitely, I actually started off writing my own treatment and sent it out to everyone else. Billy and I worked together, Billie Woodruff we worked together on the first video I ever did and we have been cool every since. We worked it out.
