Reflections: Have Gun Will Travel by guest writer Tommie

Review-Brigette Jones-The Edge of Reason
Bridget Jones Diary-The Edge of Reason is a hilarious
romantic comedy starring a slightly plumper Renee Zellwegger
as the British Brigette Jones. At the beginning of the
film, Bridget is at work totally on cloud 9 after a fantastic
shagadellic session with her boyfriend. The shag session
was so fantastic that the next day at work she has a shag
flashback and decides to call him at work to tell him
how absolutely fab he looks in the buff. She then realizes
that she has paid him this compliment on speaker phone.
Bridget has one mishap after another and this comedy will
keep you laughing. Fans of the first Bridget Jones movie
won't be disappointed in this sequel that is just as funny.
The comedy in the film is slapstick and it does get annoying
at times to see Bridget repeatedly make a fool out of
herself but fans of the underdog heroine will be pleased
with this film. Will Bridget find true love with Mark
Darcy? Or does Daniel Cleaver hold the key to her heart?
Or will she find true love at all? You have to watch the
movie to find out.
The DVD itself has some pretty cool extras. You have the
option to watch the film with the quiz on or off. The
bonus features are separated into three sections-"Daniel's
Hotel Room," "Bridget's Desk," and "Mark's Law Office."
In Daniel's hotel room are the extras, "Fight" and "Who's
Your Man Quiz?" "Fight" is commentary from cast members
talking about the fight scene in the first movie and the
sequel. "Who's Your Man Quiz?" is a fun interactive quiz.
In Bridget's desk are the option to watch the feature
film with director commentary and the option to watch
deleted scenes with introductions. In the "Mark's Law
Office" section is a featurette titled "Mark and Bridget
Forever," and an interview titled, "Bridget Jones interviews
Colin Firth." This is interesting because Renee Zellweger
interviews Colin Firth in character. Colin is in street
clothes and they are talking about "The real Colin Firth,"
not Mark Darcy. They talk about his filming "Pride and
Prejudice," among other things. The final featurette is
titled, "Lovely London." In this feature they discuss
how computer generation is used in filming some of the
exterior shots.

Review-Brooke Valentine-Chain Letter
Chain Letter is the debut CD from the Virgin
solo artist Brooke Valentine who seemingly came from nowhere
but Brooke has been on her grind for some time. Her single,
"Girlfight" has been getting a lot of spin on radio and
on video outlets, especially BET's 106 and Park. The song
is catchy and features Big Boi from Outkast and Lil Jon.
There aren't too many ways to describe Brooke or her style,
she is unique and the album has a sound different than
most of the R&B albums out today. Some songs like "Thrill
of the Chase" have a rock edge and then "Laugh Til I Cry"
starts off sounding acoustic. She has such a hard edge
and a strong voice that she really doesn't remind me of
any other female artists. Maybe Sunshine Anderson. "Long
As You Come Home," has real hit potential, using some
of that Camp Lo "Luchini" on the track. This would have
been a great first single but maybe the label felt that
track had been used one time too many, but the song is
hot. The song, "Blah, Blah, Blah," featuring the late
Dirt McGirt is so catchy and Dirty is at his best. "Tell
Me Why You Don't Love Me," is another song with crazy
production. This song would be a great second single and
the lyrics and Brooke's singing on this song make it quite
catchy. The songs 'Taste of Dis," "Ghetto Superstarz,"
and "Million Bucks," are decent. The song "I Want You
Dead," is sure to be a favorite among broken hearted young
women seeking revenge. It's quite hilarious. The song
"Pass Us By," is just really awesome. This song has an
80's funk/pop sound too it like a song by Shalamar or
Jody Watley. If you want something different and enjoyable
pick up Brooke's album, it's a perfect album for warm
weather as there are many tracks you can dance too.
The album is pretty good overall. The production is awesome.
Let's home Virgin can make it work, they haven't had much
success with the last few R&B female solo albums they
released (remember Janet's Damita Joe? And Kelis'
Wanderland album landed in limbo a few years back
and not to mention the whole Mariah Carey fiasco.). Virgin
R&B is pretty much Brooke's playground, so let's hope
the label puts as much promotion and energy into her project
as they do to other top acts at the label. Chain
Letter hits stores March 15th.

Review-50 Cent-The Massacre
It's very easy to want to dislike 50 Cent's The Massacre
because of all of the negative energy surrounding the
album's release, but it's a pretty decent album despite
the two love songs 50 dropped to radio prior to the albums
release--"Disco Inferno" and "Candy Shop".
"Candy Shop" is like "Magic Stick 2005"
and it is a surprise that he would record songs like this
since he dissed rappers in the past for singing on songs
with R&B chicks. Anyway, back to The Massacre,
the production makes the album above average. "Piggyback"
is the much anticipated diss song in which 50 disses Fat
Joe, Jadakiss, and Kelis among others. Some songs are
mad hot like, "I'm Supposed To Die Tonight"
and "Hate It Or Love It-The Remix" which features
Young Buck, 50 Cent, The Game, Tony Yayo, and Lloyd Banks.
50 escapes the negativity and violence in songs like "God
Gave Me Style" and "So Amazing." 50 disappoints
on songs such as "Outta Control" and "Gatman
and Robin." The latter is a duo with Eminem. Although,
the two might work together well on the production side,
Eminems voice and 50's don't really sound too good on
songs together. The bottom line is, if you enjoyed "Get
Rich or Die Trying" you will probably like this album,
which in my opinion is much more solid than 50's debut.
There is so much hype surrounding 50, it's not often people
actually critique his music, but production wise this
is a better album, although 50 isn't really talking about
anything new. There aren't any stand out anthems like
"Wangsta" or "In Da Club" on this
album, but that "Hate it or Love It-Remix" is
a modern hip-hop classic. 50 doesn't disappoint.

Coach
Carter Soundtrack Review
The Coach Carter soundtrack is in stores now. The fourteen
track disc includes music from established artists as
well as showcases several new artists. Noticeably missing
is the song "In The Air Tonight" by the group
Nonpoint. This remake was performed by the group Nonpoint
and is no where on the soundtrack. Although the song was
used in commercials and trailers it can only be found
on Nonpoints album Recoil. Perhaps the song was omitted
from the soundtrack because Nonpoint is a rock group and
the remainder of the songs on the soundtrack and hip-hop
and R&B.
Like many soundtracks, Coach Carter is one that will
probably have you skipping a few tracks to get to your
favorite songs. Taking a risk, the soundtracks starts
with a song by a relatively unknown artist Red Cafe. This
is a okay song with a hot track that was produced by Kwame
who is back in the game as one of the hottest producers.
Kwame has produced hits for Lloyd Banks, Jin, and Tweet.
The Red Cafe track is followed up by "No Need For
Conversation," by Fabolous featuring Mike Shorey.
This song is okay. Chingy featuring G.I.B. attempts to
get the party started with "Professional." "Southside"
features The Game and Lil Scrappy. This song is okay but
it doesn't get the album crunk.
The Coach Carter soundtrack wakes up with "Roll
Wit' You." Ciara, the queen of Crunk N' B music continues
her string of hot songs with "Roll Wit' You,"
which is very reminiscent of several Aaliyah songs. This
song is hot and should be released as a single. This is
one of the best songs on the album. This song is followed
by "Wouldn't You Like To Ride" by Kanye West,
Malik Yusef, Common & JV. This song is really a good
one. It's followed by the hot song, "Hope" by
Twista featuring Faith Evans.
There are A LOT of newcomers on this album-CzarNok, Ak'Sent,
Red Cafe, Trey Songz and Letoya. There are so many newcomers
on the CD it might as well be a Capital Records sampler.
Of all of the songs by newcomers the song "Your Love"
by Van Hunt is the most promising as a potential hit.
Ak'Sent is a female rapper and CzarNok is a new male rapper.
Track #13 is by a young singer named Letoya. If the voice
sounds slightly familiar it's no coincidence. Letoya is
also known as Letoya Luckett and used to be 1/4th of the
group Destiny's Child. She is back in the music game and
has her solo album coming out later this year. Her song
on the album "What Love Can Do" is no radio
single but a decent album track. This song is good and
shows that she has promise as a solo artist.
Overall, the Coach Carter Soundtrack is a decent soundtrack
but it is like too many soundtracks--a few hot songs and
a lot of filler. Let's just say it ain't no Above The
Rim Soundtrack .
