G-Unit shows
off their sexy side
They look mean. They look real tough. Just by taking a glance
at the cover art for the G-Unit's debut album Beg For
Mercy these looks like guys that don't play.
When I saw the G-Unit video for "Stuntin 101"
last fall I was less than interested. They just struck me
as materialistic, shallow and just medicore rappers. Is
that mean? Hey, I'm being honest. I liked 50 Cent but I
was not inspired by G-Unit. In the beginning they were no
different than D-12 or the St. Lunatics to me--a popular
artists spin off group.
One day as I was driving from Walmart listening to my local
urban radio station I heard a real mellow R&B/rap song,
I recognized Joe but who were the rappers? When I got home,
I just happened to see the video on 106 and Park.
Wanna Get To Know Ya--G-Unit featuring Joe.
They don't look mean anymore more. Well, they don't look
soft either. They have that rugged, thuggish sexy look.
They look that, "Hey, you're my woman and I will f**k
someone up for looking at you." Wow! I like that! And
50 Cent and those muscles! Now I know why all the little
girls in my neighborhood were wearing G-Unit tee shirts.
I want one!
The song grew on me. I looked forward to hearing it on the
radio and even looked more forward to seeing the video.
I was 16 all over again. I learned the members name. Young
Buck and Lloyd Banks, who counts dude that is always in
jail or the guy who doesn't have a verse on the song.
I couldn't bring myself to actually buy the G-Unit CD. So
I checked it out from the library. Dang, I should just burn
the song and turn the CD back into the library but I have
renewed the CD like 3 times now. FYI-don't buy the edited
version, it's pretty pointless.
Anyway, what was my focus? Oh yeah, yeah yeah. Wasn't 50
Cent calling Ja Rule an R&B artist a few years back?
How is Wanna Get To Know You any different than "I'm
Real" or "Rainy Dayz" two of Ja Rules R&B/Rap
songs. G-Unit is no different than a lot of these other
rappers. They were too damn hard to appeal to a lot of the
ladies. Sure a lot of these neighborhood chicks who regularly
dig guys with gold/platinum fronts and doo rags were feeling
the G-Unit but your average college educated chick mighta
looked at them as being a little too thugged out. A nice
radio friendly joint like "Wanna Get To Know You"
has garnered the G-Unit a few new fans.
50 makes some pretty cool promises in that joint. "Big
house, big benz, girl it's yours."
Just when you think these are understanding guys that would
make any girl happy, the next song comes on "Groupie
Love." The song where 50 raps, "You look like
someone I f**cked on tour. Just that quick and G-Unit were
back to being quite too common.
The bottom line is, G-Unit look pretty damn sexy in that
video. Where can I pick up my G-Unit 12 month calendar?
