Interview with solo artist Omarion. His
latest album "21" debuted at #1 on the Billboard
Top 200 Albums Chart.
A fan of yours told me they saw you on
MTV Asia. Do you have any plans to work with any Asian
music artists?
Omarion-Yeah,
I have Rain, we call him Rain over here but I think his
name is Pete over there. I plan on doing some work over
there. I actually love Asia and I will actually be over
there next week on the 5th. I'll be doing some shows and
stuff.
Is this latest album your first number one album?
Omarion-No,
my last album hit number one two. God is the greatest.
How did you feel around Christmas time when you found
out your album had hit number one?
Omarion-I
just felt I was starting the year so right. It's going
to be an amazing year. My album came out December 26th.
Beginning the year with the number one album, it's a pretty
amazing feeling.
You are pretty established as a solo artist now. Are you
surprised people still ask you about a possible B2K reunion?
Omarion-Yeah,
sometimes. It doesn't bother me. It's part of my past
and its really where I come from. When people ask me it's
all good.
Have you ever thought about putting together a group and
managing them?
Omarion-Of
course. I think more so than managing a group I would
like to work on artist development, solo artists, groups,
all that good stuff.
What did you do in between albums? It seems like there
was a tiny little gap in between albums.
Omarion-Well
I have been working on some movies. I have two films coming
out this year. One called "Somebody Help Me"
which is a scary movie which Chris Stokes directed. I
have another film called "Reggaeton" which is
being produced by Sony Pictures.
What is your current single?
Omarion-The
current single is "Ice Box," and I think the
next single will be "Midnight."
What do you want to tell people about your album who
may not have picked it up yet?
Omarion-I
just want them to know this is my personal album and if
they want to get to know me better or hear some good music
they should pick up the album.
You basically grew up in the spotlight. What are some
of the best things about being an artist growing up in
the spotlight like that?
Omarion-All
the free stuff! Jewelry, you don't have to get it customized.
When you go to places you can just go right up to the
front. Just the perks. One time we went to Magic Mountain
we got to go through the back of the park and get on every
ride.
A lot of young stars find themselves in the tabloids and
gossip blogs for negative reasons. How do you manage to
keep your name away from negative stuff?
Omarion-It's
up to the person but for me its just who I am. I'm a positive
person. I don't consider myself getting into trouble.
Its pretty much about who you are and your principals
and morals and the Christian background that I have.
Are you on tour right now?
Omarion-No.
I'm getting ready for overseas. I'm sure something will
be jumping off over here during the summertime.
