Lola-September 2005

Lola is a new singer set to release her debut album on SoBe/Warner Records in early 2006. Her first single "No Strings" is already in heavy rotation on radio. She has a very popular MYSPACE page and she is definitely an artist you will be hearing more from soon.

Can you tell the site visitors a little about yourself?
Lola- I am French. I'm 24. I have been in New York for the past four years. My dad lived in the states when I was growing up but I was raised by my mother so I got to travel back and forth from L.A. to Paris as a child. I'm a singer and a recording artist.

How long have you been singing?

Lola- I've been singing forever. I was fortunate to have parents who had excellent taste in music. When I grew up there was always music in the house. As far back as I can remember I was always singing. Maybe not as well as today, but I always loved music.

Having a love for singing is a good thing but how did you go about doing it as a business and getting a record deal?
Lola-
Well….I think I started thinking about doing it professionally at 19. I was always singing. Then my boyfriend was like, "You need to pursue this. This is what you need to do. This is your vocation. You may not realize it but it is." When I came to New York I started working with different producers and knocking on different doors and I recorded a bunch of stuff and I always collaborated with different people. I had three different managers and different deals and I pretty early made some money doing shows and things as a vocalist. People started hearing about me and I did a lot of showcases. I had a few almosts and I performed in front of these people that totally got the vision and direction I wanted to go into and they were excited about it. That's how we get to today.

So this is your latest video on your MYSPACE page?

Lola- Yes, it's my first video.

Since some of your lyrics are say sexually charged what would you say to critics who criticize the lyrics?
Lola- It's a fantasy. I'm an artist. I feel the role of an artist is to express what people wouldn't normally feel free to express although they might feel it. Of course there is a choice to be made. I'm not suggesting people go out and engage in sexual intercourse with people they don't know but I think that's a feeling that everybody has at some point in their life and they are just overcome with hormones and not respect themselves. Having sex is something beautiful and sacred but nonetheless these feelings happen often, more often than society wants to acknowledge. I think by putting it out in the open it gives people an opportunity to examine how they react to the song, why they react to the song, and what their feelings about sexuality are and why.

I know you mentioned a love for singing have you ever dabbled in the other arts like maybe acting or modeling?

Lola- Yes, I've been studying acting practically all of my life. Actually, I'm going to my acting class in about an hour. I still study. I'm a huge movie fan. A student of film and plays. I'm very passionate about acting. I try to go to museums. I'm not a visual artists or anything but I certainly appreciate other forms of art.

When does the album come out?

Lola- The album comes out early next year we're thinking either January or February.

How would you describe your music?
Lola- Soulful rock with urban. I have to be careful with this one.... this has been the challenge because I like so many different types of music. The album will be soulful pop rock...and something for the clubs.
