Review of "Bling" by Erica Kennedy
I enjoyed this book but am going to try to write a fair
review of my assessment of the book. Clocking in at over
500 pages, "Bling" needed a better editor to
trim some of that fat. The story could have been told
at a much quicker pace. Like a lot of the banter and conversation
of side characters like Witchy, Grimey and some of the
other role players made me skip multiple pages to get
back to Mimi's part of the story. She was the most interesting
character, she was from Ohio and we readers are kind of
made to feel that she is a bit naive, but at times she
seems quite street and knowledgable. Like she is hip to
game is what I mean. The story "Bling" is really
good and it reads more like a movie. It would be a great
movie and I'm sure there is one in the works. A lot of
the characters of course reminded me of real life players
in the hip hop game, the very first time I read about
Ridikulous I thought about Ludacris. Both words are almost
synonyms and the way that Ridikulous is described is almost
the way Ludacris is as a rapper. But nonetheless, I liked
this book alot, but there were just too many characters
getting airplay that weren't that integral to the overall
story. I often found myself thinking okay, Imani is this
person, Lena is this character, but this is by no means
Erica's fault, her editor just let it fly like this.

Review of "How To Make Love Like A Porn Star-A Cautionary
Tale" by Jenna Jameson
For those of you who don't know, Jenna Jameson is one
of the most famous adult film stars in the universe.
Jenna's story is one that one's curious about a life not
so ordinary will want to read. The book is a very good autobiography.
The book starts when Jenna is a teen so it's not like you
have to read too much about her early early years, a problem
I see with a lot of tell all's. The prologue sets the tone
for the book as Jenna describes an incident with an early
friend. The book written in first person by Jenna is so
real. The pictures, the notes, the photocopied clippings,
it's really an exciting book and although it has a large
page count I never found a dull moment.
The one thing I picked up is that Jenna is a person who
seems to want to tell her story as candid and honest as
possible and she has no qualms about discussing her own
fears and regrets about situations. She had a rough life
and it's hard not to sympathize with her because of her
past. Whether you agree or disagree with her chosen profession
this is one of the best celebrity autobiographies of the
decade.
And despite the title, the story isn't all about sex.

Thoughts on accomplishments regarding Be My Sorority
Sister:
"I also feel that I touched on how badly many non
Greek women aspire to become Greek. When I was a freshman,
the first week of school everyone wanted to go Greek.
Of course by senior year, most of those same people were
not in sororities, but I'm sure a lot of them still wanted
to join a Greek organization for one reason or another.

Dorrie on whether there is any truth within the plot:
"Truth within the plot. No, not really. I can draw
off of some of Eva's (main characters) emotions. Both
of my parents are Greek and many of my friends are so
naturally when I went away to college I felt pressure
to "Go Greek." That was another one of the motivating
factors in writing the book. People don't often openly
discuss the pressure on African-American women and men
to follow in the traditions of their parents Greek heritage
when they go to college. It's a tremendous pressure because
you know that your parents worked so hard to join this
organization and that if you somehow fail to join you
may be failing them and your future offspring."

On whether she is trying to capitalize off of the
Greek system:
"It's not like I invented the wheel. There was School
Daze, MTV has a series named Sorority Life and there are
other books about sororities and fraternities. As an African-American
woman, in college Greeks were a topic of conversation,
even as an adult the Greek system is a part of our culture."
