Gucci Mane Interview January 2006

After months of isolation and reflection, Hip Hop's underdog and witty rhyme slayer Gucci Mane(Radric Davis) is finally home. After serving his time on assault charges in Georgia's Dekalb County Jail, the Atlanta rap artist victoriously won his alledged murder case after charges were dropped due to lack of evidence.

The charismatic emcee is back and ready to reconnect with his family and fans.Gucci Mane's hit "So Icy" featuring Young Jeezy, put a freeze on the competition in 2005. Now his blazing new single "Go Head" is heating up southern dance floors and poised to melt urban airwaves across the country. In sync with Gucci Mane's upbeat, catchy writting style, "Go Head" is a ardent display of his intense admiration of the female anatomy liquefied against a feverish bass line and along with "So Icy", is featured on his album Trap House (Big Cat Records) (Press Release Information)

While you were locked up did you ever think you would be out again so soon promoting your album?
Gucci Mane-I really stayed prayed up. I had all the faith.

When you back out did you hit the studio and record anything new?
Gucci Mane-Yeah I recorded like 5 new songs since I've been out.

Are you currently promoting the same album that had "So Icy" or are you promoting a new album?
Gucci Mane-I'm promoting the same album the one with "So Icy" on it. I have a new single called "Go Head."

Yeah I guess you didn't get to promote the album too much because of the drama. Here's a question. What would you have to say to message board haters and Internet haters who say you beat your charge because you are a snitch?
Gucci Mane-That's so stupid so far from being the truth it ain't even worth responding to.

Are you doing any touring right now?
Gucci Mane-I'm doing shows right now, but we are trying to set up a tour for the summer.

Have you shot the video for your new single?
Gucci Mane-We shoot the video in February

When can we expect your next album?

Gucci Mane-May.

It seems like once you got on as an artist you were involved in a swirl of controversy. Have you been able to enjoy any of your success?
Gucci Mane- I have. I had a little time.

I ask a lot of up and coming rappers this. You had a song it was on the radio. How do you deal with new artists who are constantly asking you to help them get on?
Gucci Mane-I try to give everybody a shot at least listen to their stuff. You never know when you might find the next big thing. I've been in that same boat so I try to extend my hand out to them as much as I can.

When you were in there did you get any writing done?
Gucci Mane-I recorded over 50 songs.

Do you think you would ever write a book or make a movie about your experience?
Gucci Mane-I wrote a book when I was in jail but it wasn't about that experience. It's not based on my life story, but based on things I've seen in my community.

How long have you been a rapper?
Gucci Mane-Since I was 13.

When did you decide, "This is something I want to pursue as a career?"
Gucci Mane-Maybe about 17-18, I said I wanted to be a rapper from there.

Did you ever want to be anything different?
Gucci Mane-Honestly, I always wanted to be a rapper.

What rappers did you like coming up?
Gucci Mane-Tupac, Biggie, NWA, LL Cool J, Fat Boys, Special ED, Run DMC.

Us fans on the East Coast only really only know what we see on TV or what we read on the Internet so is the beef with Jeezy dead?
Gucci Mane-I don't have any beef with him.

What are you looking forward to in 2006?
Gucci Mane-Promoting my album. I can't wait to record my second album.

What do you do when you are not doing music?
Gucci Mane-Music, that's all my life is right now. Trying to get some rest, all I do is record music all day.

What would you say to critics who say "So Icy" glamorizes a life not easily attainable to most teens?
Gucci Mane-Tell critics its just music to make people dance and have a good time don't put too much seriousness on it.
