Let it be known though that this rapper fly's solo. She is not the first one stepping out of a crew, Ebony Eyez is Ebony Eyez and her debut album The Seven Day Cycle drops this September.

I was very glad that Larry agreed to our interview. I never get nervous about interviews but I was
Be sure to vote for Ebony's video "In Ya Face" on 106 and Park! She was a real cool young lady to talk too!

How did you come up with your stage name?
Ebony Eyez-It's kind of a nick name people used to call me a lot when I was younger so I picked it up and ran with it.

Do you sing and rap?
Ebony Eyez-No I wish I could sing. I just rap.

So how long have you been rapping?
Ebony Eyez-Seven years now.

Cool. Do you have a release date for your album yet?
Ebony Eyez-It's going to be Sept 13th. It's titled the Seven Day Cycle.

Oh wow so when did you start working on it?
Ebony Eyez-I started working on it actually like March of 2004. So I had a good year and a couple of months to actually complete and album and I'm so grateful.

Where you ever in a group or where you always a solo artist?
Ebony Eyez-I've been in groups. This is my first time being a solo artist. I was in groups when I was 9 or 10, we used to rap and dance and then when I was seventeen I got in a group me and another female. We stayed together about four years and then I went solo and started working on my own project.

Where are you from?
Ebony Eyez-I'm from St. Louis, Missouri.

Oh wow that's cool. I lived in Southern Illinois for six years. I attended Southern Illinois University, it's not too far from St. Louis. So wow! I remember you were on the single with J-Kwon so you knew him from back in the day?
Ebony Eyez-You know we are both signed to the Track Boyz and we both have the same management Big Bob and that's kind of how it happened. When I got with Big Bob, well I knew the Track Boyz already because we are all from St. Louis. I got the music together and Bob we let the Track Boyz hear it and they liked it. At the time they were working on J-Kwon's project. So I was at the studio with them and we collaborated on a song and it made it on his album. Then we did the XXX thing and got a spot on the soundtrack with him so they have definitely been looking out for me.

Are there any other female rappers that came out of St. Louis?
Ebony Eyez-No.

First one. Wow!
Ebony Eyez- There are a lot of talented females so hopefully they will be able to follow behind.

So your video premiered on BET this week.

Ebony Eyez-Yeah, on 106 and Park. I think it was Monday.

Did you watch it?

Ebony Eyez-No, I didn't get to watch it. The hotel I was in didn't have BET. I didn't see it so I was a little upset but I had my mom tape it. So I will see it when I get back home.

So what have you been doing this summer so far?

Ebony Eyez-Out here on a promotional tour just meeting everybody and making connections. Trying to work the record and the project.

Have you been doing any showcases or performances?
Ebony Eyez-Yeah, I've done a lot of shows. I had one with Slim Thug the other night, him and Young Jeezy at Slim Thugs album release party. He let me come through and perform on his night so I was definitely grateful for that.

So now that you are an artist and you have a deal is it everything that you thought it would be?
Ebony Eyez-It's so much more work than I ever thought it would be. You kind of don't understand the whole other side that no one exposes you to. So you kind of just think, "If I work hard, I'm going to be on the radio and on the videos," you don't' really understand what it takes to get out here and you have to work, but I am loving every minute of it. It's much better than being at home watching videos wishing it was me.

I interview a lot of people and they say people always ask them this question and I never ask it but I am going to ask you. What makes you different than other female rappers?
Ebony Eyez-First of all, I'm different, and I'm not being arrogant when I say this but I'm Ebony Eyez. I'm the first female rapper out of St. Louis. So it's bringing a different perspective than the males coming out of St. Louis. A lot of time women are the first female from the clique and I'm stepping out here on my own and I'm not coming from anyone's clique. I'm grateful for the opportunity and the chance to get out here on my own and not having to be introduced by a clique of guys.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Ebony Eyez-In St. Louis roller skating is a big thing. I love to skate and it's good exercise so I'm always going to the skating rink. Hearing the jam on the dance floor snapping my fingers and having a good time.

Do you get to spend a lot of time out in St.Louis?
Ebony Eyez-Yeah so far. That's about to change.

I like the food in St. Louis.

Ebony Eyez-I do too. I'm very picky out here on the road. It's good food and we cook a lot.

What music are you feeling that is out this summer?

Ebony Eyez-I'm loving the music that's out. Lyfe, Fantasia there is a lot of good music out. And being out here I get to hear a lot of new artists whoa aren't out yet or trying to get a deal and I'm loving that. And Slim Thug. I just got his album.

He's cool. He's one of my favorite people to interview.
Ebony Eyez-He's kinda cool and humble and you would think how big he is and he's kind of big and intimidating but when you talk to him he's so cool and nice.

If you weren't a rapper what would you be doing?

Ebony Eyez-I would be some kind of writer rather it be writing for a magazine or writing books or movies, it would be something with writing.
