C-Murder is back
with a new DVD and working on a new album. The New Orleans
rapper, actor and best-selling author recently spoke with
Thabiz.com about his career. His DVD The Movement arrives
in stores December 11th.
How was your Thanksgiving?
C-Murder-It
was good. I had a chance to be with my kids
Can you tell me about your experience being incarcerated
in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina?
C-Murder-I
can't speak on being locked up. But imagine being in a
cell during a trying time like that and your family is
on the outside. The phones are down. You're in even more
bad of a situation and you don't know what's going on
the outside and can't get in touch with none of your family.
Tell me all about your DVD the Movement?
C-Murder-The
DVD is basically an intro to the album. Camera's were
rolling with me everyday all over the city. The camera
was living with me all those days and captured positive
things like me visiting kids and giving them inspiration
and me in the studio working on the album
What is the title of the new record?
C-Murder-Screaming
for Vengeance.
Who did you work with on the new album?
C-Murder-Akon,
I have a track with Letoya Lucket, Bone Thugs, Papoose,
brought back my girl Mia X, my Coming Out The Cut Boys,
my TRU roster, G, Tameka , Junie B
What can you tell me about the new album?
C-Murder-It's
gangsta, gutty, it has a positive message. I've been C-Murder
from day one. This music hasn't changed. I'm gonna give
the fans what they want.
Have you used Youtube and the Internet to come up with
innovative ways to promote your music?
C-Murder-Definitely.
I'm glad they got Youtube and all that stuff. We used
it before the album. I'm gonna hit Youtube with a new
video everyday before my album comes out. I network with
my fans everyday on Myspace. I get personal with my fans
on Myspace on a regular basis.
Can you tell me what it was like for you when No Limit
was at the top of the rap music industry in the late 90s?
C-Murder-It
was moving, moving fast. The phones were ringing off the
hook. I love to work. I love to perform and be on stage.
It was just right for me, and I loved making all the movie's.
Which of the movies was your favorite?
C-Murder-My
favorite was The Game of Life with Snoop. I had a lot
of roles in that movie. I really wanted to do that movie
with Snoop and I enjoyed that one the most.
Do you still keep in touch and work with Snoop Dogg?
C-Murder-Yeah,
definitely. He gotta a new album he's working on. I sent
him a track, he called me and asked me if I wanted to
get on. We stay in contact. We lives miles apart but we're
straight.
Your book Death Around The Corner was a best seller. Did
you expect the book to be that successful?
C-Murder-Well
I was hoping so. I always had that confidence that is
why I took so much time to prepare it. I didn't want to
do the autobiography. I wanted to showcase my talent as
an author and not my real story, I came with a story that
came out of my head. It's still doing good and there are
talks to bid to make it a movie so that's a plus.
Do you plan to write another book?
C-Murder-Yeah
right now I'm working on another novel. It's named Street
Glory and it should be out next April.
How is it different getting a record deal verses a publishing
deal?
C-Murder-It's
the same. You go into a publication house, they distribute
the book just like an album. Depending on who you deal
with you get a better push for your book. It's kinda like
the same thing.
Your nephew Lil Romeo just signed a college basketball
scholarship? How do you feel about him pursuing a college
career when he has enough money that he doesn't have to
pursue his education if he didn't want to?
C-Murder-I'm
proud of him. I've seen him recently and I told him I'm
proud of him. Plus he is doing something that he enjoys
playing basketball. He always knew education was real
important. His daddy always put that in his head and I
put that in him. I was an honor roll student all through
high school. You learn by example.
Are you still based in New Orleans?
C-Murder-Yeah,
I'm still down here in N.O.
What's the music scene like down in New Orleans?
C-Murder-The
music scene is crucial. I'm introducing a lot of it on
my DVD. A lot of young cats trying to come up doing their
thing. There's a lot of talent down here. With The Movement
I show how we rock and get down plus you got Lil Wayne
holding it down for the South and the N.O.
I know you mentioned TRU. Is it TRU the group with new
members?
C-Murder-The
old TRU Records were Me, P, and Silkk. When I say TRU,
I mean TRU Records. I got my own label and situation.
I'm going forward with everybody from my team.
How is your brother Silkk The Shocker?
C-Murder-Yeah,
he's chillin.' I spoke to him a couple of days ago. He
has his own production team doing movies and stuff. It's
named 6-Foot Productions. He's making tight movies.
yeah he chilling spoke to him a couple days ago, he has
his own production team doing movies and stuff 6 foot
productions tight movies
Are you looking forward to the Christmas holiday?
C-Murder-Definetly,
I can't wait.
