Ce'Cile Interview January 2009
Reggae/Dancehall artist Ce'Cile is internationally known. She is a member of the Danger Zone camp. Her new album "Worth It" is now available. The album features guest appearances from Shaggy, Beenie Man, and Trina.

Is this your first album?
Ce'Cile-It’s the first album for this territory North American and the Caribbean and the U.S.A. Physically they can sell it anywhere, technically it’s the debut for the North America/Caribbean region. I’ve had other albums released in other areas.

How would you describe your musical sound?
Ce'Cile-My music is dance hall and reggae and it has a girl power kinda vibe. I normally speak on behalf of females and everything. It’s not pro feminine as much as girl power kinda stuff. It’s totally all for the men, but with the girl power kinda vibe.

How long have you been performing?
Ce'Cile-I had my first hit in 2000 and I have been performing since then. With Jamaican albums you can tour. It’s a hard audience but you can perform anywhere. I tour everywhere and I do my Europe tour every year and we just go somewhere different every week. We perform in the states and the Caribbean.

What can you tell me about your new album?

Ce'Cile-Ding Dong has started a really big dance trend in dance hall and its really running things. The first single is dancehall and it features Beanie Man. The “Waiting” remix features Shaggy. We have an older song that is a favorite called “Hot Like That” which features Trina.

Do you work out a lot or do you get your exercise by dancing?

Ce'Cile-I don’t dance a lot. I have dancers. Working out is something that I do to not only look good but for a healthy way of life. When I talk to all of my female friends I say they should all be healthy and not just do it for a man but try to lead a healthy lifestyle. I encourage all ladies to work out and be fit.

What are your long term career goals?
Ce'Cile-I like producing and long term I would like to produce more for other artists. I can’t go anywhere and see a great performance and not want to go on stage. Hopefully, I have the kind of career where I can perform even when I’m 60. I love entertainment, TV shows, radio, that’s my life. Long term I would like to be performing and writing music.

Who are some artists that inspired you growing up?
Ce'Cile-Shabba Ranks and Super Cat. They are my favorites. In high school I listened to Beanie Man and Lady Saw. On the international scene I like Anita Baker, Jill Scott, and Fiona Apple. I like people who write music. Madonna is my idol.

Have you ever considered any acting?
Ce'Cile-You know I did one little movie called “Glory to Glory Anna.” For me the process is kinda long. For music it’s sometimes the same. I’m not totally into acting but I would like to do a comedy because I like to laugh.

Are you looking forward to the album coming out?
Ce'Cile-I’m looking forward to fans hearing it in totality instead of singles here and there. My Caribbean people have never had an album from me. You know you want to go on tour and hear songs other people know and fans can capture your essence more than with 40 different singles that are not from one story. I like it, I love the songs and I do know my favorites so far. “No Disturb Sign,” “Throw Back” which has a reggae vibe, “Twice My Age,” I love that kinda vibe, hopefully everyone gets it and can learn about me and I can go and perform the album this fall.

Are you going to be performing in the United States anytime soon?

Ce'Cile-Yeah. I think I have a Memorial Weekend show in Miami. The big one in New York is Irie Jamboree. I just did Rock With Squeeze in Manhattan. Like I said every year I tour Europe and in March I open for Peter Fox. I want to leave summer open for the U.S. My fans will see me soon.

Do you have a chance to promote your music on Myspace?

Ce'Cile-Yes, I have a Myspace profile and I’m also on Facebook. I do check both of them myself. I have my page CecileFlava.com as well.
