B.G. Interview

B.G. is only 22 years old believe it or not and he has over 7 records in his discography. He got his start on Cash Money Records. His hit single, "Bling Bling," sparked an internationally recognized catch phrase.

Several years ago, B.G. left Cash Money Records. On May 24th he releases his third record on Koch--The Hear of Tha Streets. The first single, "Where Da At?" is in rotation on BET and gaining in radio airplay.


So the album is coming out.
B.G.- May 24th.

This is your third album on Koch. Do you ever take breaks between albums or are you always working on the next thing?
B.G.- I mean always working, ya know what I'm sayin'? I have a whole nother' album ready.

B.E.T. just had their Spring Bling down in Florida. Did you make it down there?
B.G.-No, I didn't make it. I had some things to do and other things I was working on.

You just shot your video?
B.G.-It's already on TV. As a matter of fact it was on 106 and Park yesterday as the new joint of the day. It's about to go into full rotation this week.

So now you are doing promo and waiting for the album to drop?
B.G.-I go out May 7th I start my promotional tour.

So you are going to be some of everywhere huh?
B.G.- Where are you at?

Virginia Beach
B.G.-Oh I think I am coming to Virginia I have to look at the calendar.

So you have the Chopper City Boyz on the album, who else do you have on the album?
B.G.-Really, I didn't want to go out of my clique this time. I kept all of my features in house, push my label and my artists.

So you have your own label, who are some of your artists?

B.G.-I have my little brother Kizzle, (inaudible), Snipe and my little partner Mike.

So are you B.G., B-Gizzle, or both?
B.G.-I'm both.


I was listening to the audio clip that was playing in the background while I was on hold. I am sure you know the lyric better than me but you mentioned something like you have done 9 or 10 albums and are nowhere near finished. How long have you been rapping?

B.G.- Since I was 12 or 13.

You got your start with Cash Money. Was it hard for you to leave them? It seems like you all were such a family.
B.G.- I mean yeah but you know it was time to step up and man up and they wasn't breaking bread so I had to do what I had to do.

Do you ever have the opportunity to record with any of the former or current Cash Money artists?
B.G.-I mean Mannie Fresh, he is going to produce on my next album. I don't have a problem with nobody, just Baby I want my money.

Is there anything musically that you would like to do that you haven't done?
B.G.- There are a lot of things. I don't know off hand but there are a lot of things. I have a lot of visions and a lot of goals.

What is a day in the life of B-Gizzle like? What do you do? On a regular day, not when you are busy doing promo.
B.G.-I just be chillin. I might ride through the hood. I might be inside playing the Play Station. I might be in the studio.

What games do you play on Play Station?
B.G.- John Madden.

Do you play Grand Theft Auto?

B.G.-A little bit, but I am into that football and that boxing. I played Grand Theft Auto a little bit but I am best at that John Madden.

Do you have any female artists on your label that you are putting out?

B.G.-No, not yet.

I was looking at the press release. Now is Chopper from the Chopper City Boyz the same Chopper that used to be on No Limit?
B.G.- Nah. So it's another Chopper. None of them are on my label.

There is another Chopper. I remember that Chopper that was on Making The Band, but he is Young City now.
B.G.- Yes.

Are you going out on tour this summer?
B.G.-
I go out on promo tour May 7th, then I am going on the Heart of the Streetz tour. I will wait until the album gets hot and I start the second single. I will be doing a lot of spot dates but I will be headlining my own tour come summer.

Do you have any ideas about what will be the second single?
B.G.- Not yet, I am going to let the streets pick it.

Have you done any movies yet?
B.G.-
No, not yet. I am going to do a movie based on my life story and then I am going to make a movie called like in Chopper City.

When you were growing up what rappers were you influenced by?
B.G.-
Tupac, Ghetto Boyz, Scarface, UGK, 8-Ball and MJG

What are your short term goals as an artist?
B.G.- Shit, I just wanna make sure that me and my children as set for life and I want to blow my label up and turn Chopper City into what I helped turn Cash Money into.

Speaking of kids, do your kids get excited to see you on TV?
B.G.-
Yeah, my son is getting kind of used to it.

Do you ever get online and check out your website and see what the fans are saying?

B.G.-Yeah, yeah. I will be in here bored and I'll do that.
