What have you been doing since the promotion of
the last album ended?
Anthony
Hamilton- Trying to catch up on some
rest. I bought a home and just building my family and
going into some things that aren't just music. Just
making sure that real life and being a father are important.
Where do you consider home now?
Anthony
Hamilton- Home is where the heart
is. Actually, home is in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Where did you record the new album?
Anthony
Hamilton- In Charlotte, North Carolina.
I recorded it in a studio called Reflections.
How long did the process last?
Anthony
Hamilton- It was a year here, you
know over the year I was recording songs and doing stuff
like that. It took place gradually but I got into the
thick of it say like four months ago, but I went on
a vocal rest because I bruised my vocal chords and that
shut me down for three months.
How do you know when you bruised your vocal chords?
Anthony
Hamilton- You know because your vocal
chords don't vibrate and it hurts.
I figured it hurts but since it's a bruise you
can't really see it if it's down there. What did they
tell you to do just rest?
Anthony
Hamilton- Be quiet.
Was that hard for you?
Anthony
Hamilton- Yes, especially when my
boys were over.
Now I know you are also a song writer did you write
the entire album?
Anthony
Hamilton- Oh yeah.
When you are in the mode and you are working on your
album do you listen to other music?
Anthony
Hamilton-I will sometimes if there
is an emotion I want to feel and it's in another song
I'll take that chance and listen to it so it can reconnect
me to that mood I'm trying to feel.
What can you tell me about the new album?
Anthony
Hamilton- The new album is definitely
a continuation of Coming From Where I'm From,
just different topics and different accented emotions.
Definitely still teaching about life. I'm still passionate
about people and making sure I get something out there
positive. Just trying to continue the journey of man
and the evolution of man and make sure the black man
steps his game up, black, white, Hispanic every man
steps his game up. Get a facelift.
What are your feelings about the Soul Life
album being released?
Anthony
Hamilton-
I'm not mad at the Soul Life album now
from being released. It made that many more people know
about me. It's just a treat to know that people still
want to hear Anthony Hamilton whether it's new or old.
Will you perform any of the songs from the Soul Life
album when you tour?
Anthony
Hamilton-I'm
sure I would. It's my work. I wrote it and it's still
an extension of who I am. I'm not made at em'. We gotta
eat.
This is a fan submitted question. The half beard look,
is that your trademark?
Anthony
Hamilton-The
half beard. It's just how my hair grows. When I decided
I was just going to be myself, that's how it grows let
me sport it, rock it till the wheels fall off. You said,
a half beard, I'mma bust your head.
That's what they asked me! I sent the information about
the interview to the mailing list and someone told me
to ask you that. Here's another one. Is the song "Charlene"
based on a real person?
Anthony
Hamilton-Yes.
Can you tell me the story behind the song?
Anthony
Hamilton-Well
it's a story about the relationship that just couldn't.
Insecurities come when you aren't close to the person.
We are all secure when we are there in the persons face
but outside of that you kind of…you kind of wonder and
you find yourself trying to control a situation and
it's no way of taking me from my music so somebody's
gotta suffer.
Have you been writing songs for any other artists
lately?
Anthony
Hamilton-Lately…what
did I write. I wrote a few hooks for Game, then I did
something for Game and Biggie on the duets album. Co-wrote
on the Syleena Johnson album.
What song? Oh I remember now.
Anthony
Hamilton-See your head is busted
in two places now.
You seem like such a creative and artistic person,
but you did say you were involved in other non music
related ventures, with your long term plans in the music
industry do you see yourself working as an executive?
Anthony
Hamilton-Oh yeah. Businessman,
businessman. Yeah, of course.
