Ak'Sent-Interview

Ak'Sent Interview May 2006

Music lovers on Myspace.com knew about Ak'Sent long before the masses. Her first single "Zingy" featuring Beanie Man is doing it's thing and Ak'Sent recently performed the song on the Direct TV program CD USA. She has been featured in various magazines. Her debut album is due later this year.

How important has Myspace.com been to launching your career?

Ak'Sent- I definitely think it has been important in my career up to now. It has made me visible to a whole new audience at an early part of my career. When we perform shows we get lots of people saying they saw me on myspace already.

You are so young, do you ever feel overwhelmed by everything going on?

Ak'Sent- No, I feel blessed to be in this position. I want to continue to work toward my goals so I'm willing to work hard everyday and not get distracted.

When did you decide you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Ak'Sent- I've known I wanted to be an entertainer since I was about 4 years old. I was in several groups when I was younger but decided to pursue a solo rap career around the time I turned 15.

The West Coast has been holding you down big time. What West Coast artists inspired you coming up?

Ak'Sent-well, 2PAc for sure, Snoop and I gotta give it up to the west coast girl Yo Yo from back in the day

Tell me all about your debut album?

Ak'Sent- It's a record primarily reppin for the ladies. I talk about relationships both good and bad, hangin' with my girls, and of course parties...who doesn't love good party jams. But seriously the record touches on a lot of subjects from an 18 year olds perspective of life. I think girls across the world can relate to this record. I think there's a little something for everybody on the record

When do you find time to write music?

Ak'Sent-All the time, I'll write lyrics on my sidekick when its working!

Was it hard learning the choreography for the Zingy video?

Ak'Sent-No because one of my dancers is the choreographer for the show and we have been together for a couple years. And I already had lots of dance training when I was younger studying under Debbie Allen and Lulu Washington

What are your long term goals as an entertainer?

Ak'Sent-To make my mark and make a change for female hip hop artists in this male dominated business. I'm reppin for the ladies! Also I hope to get into acting at some point and maybe do a record label. My manager says I'm very savvy business girl!
